We are pleased to now be able to offer laser diode surgery – a cutting edge technology which can be used for removal of sarcoids and other skin tumours as well as surgery of the upper airway. The advantage of the laser over traditional sharp dissection with a scalpel blade is that there is minimal bleeding, the heat produced kills tumour cells reducing the risk of recurrence, and there is less post-operative pain and swelling.
The surgery is normally carried out under standing sedation, meaning the patient can go home the same day, but in some cases a short general anaesthetic is required.
Every horse and sarcoid or skin tumour must undergo a full evaluation to decide on the best treatment for the individual, which depends on type of lump, size and location. Please contact us for advice on 01670 897597 if your horse has any concerning skin lesions.
